ABSTRACT: The role of early childhood education in fostering environmental stewardship is crucial for promoting sustainable practices from a young age. This study aimed to explore how early childhood education programs instill environmental stewardship in children. The objectives were to (1) assess children's understanding of environmental concepts, (2) evaluate the effectiveness of eco-friendly activities in the curriculum, and (3) examine changes in children’s behavior towards the environment. A survey design was chosen to systematically collect data from participants. A purposive sample of 120 children aged 4-6 years, involved in eco-friendly education programs, was selected from an early childhood education center in Ogun State. Findings revealed significant improvements in children's understanding of environmental concepts, the effectiveness of eco-friendly activities, and positive behavioral changes towards environmental stewardship. The study recommended incorporating comprehensive environmental education into early childhood curricula and training educators to deliver these programs effectively.
